Nice to be back here as this is my first post in 2022. As you all know I just do not show or post pictures about asoebi fabrics and color combinations but I also update you on fashion styles that “reigning” in the Nigerian/African fashion scene.
So recently I noticed that our designers have stepped up their designing game with Ankara fabrics. Before now we have seen them making super gorgeous designs with colorful Ankara designs mixed with other fabrics that have gained recognition even in the international fashion scene.
This year 2022, I have seen beautiful designs made with our colourful Ankara prints mixed with plain Chantilly Lace fabric and this transform the whole outfit from 0 to 💯
Bear in mind that Chantilly laces are soft and has a luxurious feel (mostly in subtle colors), so when you mix it with our colorful Ankara cotton fabric the result is absolutely gorgeous.

As we all know, fashion they say keep evolving and despite the pandemic the creative juice of fashion designers keep flowing especially our Nigerian fashion designers who are constantly stepping up their game in terms of creating unique asoebi styles for party guests .
One thing I have noticed recently is that fashion designers now put extra efforts on or should I say “play” more with the sleeves of their recent designs to give their clients jaw dropping outfits
They sew a basic fitted dress for asoebi and then create some drama on the sleeves which immediately switch the dress from zero to 100%.
We must also note that these dramatic sleeves design {in my opinion} is not for every BODY FRAME, because some can be overpowering and appear overwhelming on some body shapes which at the end of day make you look like a drag queen.
For instance, someone with a petite stature might appear smaller if the sleeves on her outfit are too bogus while another person with a bigger body frame will make heads turn in the same dress.
In view of this, I will advise that before you try out these beautiful designs with dramatic sleeves make sure you seek your designer’s opinion.

Hello everyone and can I still say Happy New Year?🙈 Since it’s my first post here in the year 2020.
How has the new year been so far? Hope you are smashing your new year goals already?
Well, it’s 2020 and a lot is happening in the fashion/fabric scene especially in Nigeria and Africa generally. So if you are a lover of African fashion, get ready for a dramatic turn as we are bringing new Fabrics and fashion houses are churning out amazing pieces which I will be sharing from time to time here.
So today, I’m sharing one of the new entrants that made way into our fashion scene late last year and it’s taking over at the moment because of the versatility of the fabric. It’s the Lamé Fabric 💥
This is a shiny fabric made with metallic threads. It’s lustrous, smooth, with a fluid drape, semi-sheer/opaque. Lamé comes in different varieties, depending on the composition of the other threads in the fabric. Common examples are tissue lamé, hologram lamé and pearl lamé.
So if the memo says sparkle and shine, Hollywood glamour or you just want to shine bright like diamonds to your next event, the Lamé fabric is your best bet.
And it’s so versatile that you can make amazing dress styles in different lengths with it like wrap dresses, Kaftans, even our ever green iro and buba, boubous, jumpsuits and many more that I will be showing you samples of but first let’s take a look at the fabric:

Metallic threads should never be exposed to high heat in a clothes dryer or while ironing. Use a clothes steamer to remove wrinkles and be sure to keep the steamer nozzle at least 12 inches away from the fabric surface. If you must use an iron to remove wrinkles, use alow heatsetting and always press from the wrong side while using apressing clothbetween the iron’s surface and the fabric.
Good news is some fashion brands like @funkeadepoju has some of these styles as ready to wear which you can just order for yourselves.

One of the most comfortable outfits yet elegant styles for women at this time is the BOUBOU style. It’s easy to make and very comfortable to wear as you can move around, serve food, attend to visitors during the festive season.
The last time I had a party and I was confused on what to make with my asoebi because I didn’t have enough time to get it to a tailor on time infact I had less than 24hrs and I just didn’t want to make iro and buba, I just asked someone to make my fabric into a BOUBOU and I got it ready in less than 1hr. I just matched it a turban, long earrings, bracelet and wristwatch and I was so happy unfortunately I didn’t get to take pictures which would have been perfect for this post.
But here, I have some beautiful BOUBOU style options for you to choose from incase you are opting for the comfortable yet elegant look:
Guipure laces are one of the best fabrics for boubou styles but the truth is I have seen amazing boubou styles made from tulle laces, adire fabrics, brocade fabrics and even Ankara fabrics. So it all depends on your budget. You can use guipure lace, cord lace, milk fibre lace (like I showed you in my last post HERE), silk fabric, chiffon fabric etc
On choosing colors for boubou, I personally love the classic white for boubous. White colour is versatile as you can match it with any color of turban or asooke and it’s so easy to accessorize.
Also depending on your body size, you can opt for a colorful fabric, prints or plain. I love to use plain fabric even though in my last birthday photo shoot HERE I wore a multicoloured guipure lace boubou which was so beautiful but because my fashion language is subtle yet stunning I still prefer plain fabrics for boubou.

This is actually my first post in 2019 ( covers face) and the year is half gone already. Let me just say I just got out of #writersblock because I keep trying to bring content here but some issues either from business or family will take up my time and I kept postponing.
But here we are today , a new post finally and I hope to continue to be consistent from now on.

MILK FIBRE LACE is so similar to guipure but it’s lighter than guipure on the body and so soft on the skin.
I personally love this fabric because it’s versatile and beautiful. It feels light but of a good density and quality.
