DESIGNS ON THEASOEBIJUNKIE

DZYN AT LFDW 2014

GTBank Lagos Fashion & Design Week 2014 started on the 29th of October and will be on till the 1st of November 2014.

I am not in Lagos currently, so I couldn’t make it to the event but I have been following all the details and happenings at the event online since Day One.

So I was checking out the pictures of designers on the runway on Day Two and one Designer’s pieces caught my attention- DZYN!

I have been following her (Ogwa) brand on Instagram and I put up her designs on my page but she totally blew me up with her designs at LFDW!

From her choice of fabrics, to color selection, the way she mixed those fabrics together to the way they fit like gloves on each model’s body!

I was like OMG!  She killed it!

Her designs are my best designs so far, you could see display of creativity, originality and you can feel that she has the African woman in mind while creating them.

She used different fabric for each and also mixed the fabrics together to make some.

Fabrics include: Raw silk, Jersey, Satin, lace, tulle.

Then the colors:  Peach, Beige, Orange, Blue and gold (Classic)

I also love the trimmings, stones, unique patches! Everything on-point!

You need to see these for yourselves below:

SHADES OF PINK AT THE GENEVIEVE PINK BALL

Hello people,

Last weekend the Genevieve magazine organised the pink ball event which is a gala event with the purpose to create awareness for breast Cancer which is very much a real and deadly disease.

They sold out the pink ball card as a ticket to the event which proceeds will be used to treat/help breast cancer patients.

Lots of organisations sponsored this awesome cause and I hope to be part of the next pink ball by God’s grace. Also some fabric vendors and fashion houses also gave out fabrics and made ready to wear pieces to support the cause.

Guests showed up in different shades of pink to grace the event and I decided to dedicate this post to showcasing the pink attires made from ‘African fabrics’ that can also inspire your sense of style to the next pink ball event you might want to attend.

Enjoy………………………………….

2014 WEDDING COLORS

SHADES OF TEAL

One very hot color this season especially for aso-ebi of different occasions not just weddings is the teal color!

download

Teal is a low-saturated color, a bluish-to dark medium, similar to medium blue  and dark cyan. It can be created by mixing green with blue into a white base, or deepened as needed with a little bit of black or gray color.

Hence, teal tends towards two colors blue and green. The teal green has a medium tone of teal with more of green mix making it look like dark green while the Teal blue is a medium tone of teal with more blue.

Lots of wedding guests have used this color to sew fabulous styles and the pop of color as aso-ebi is phenomenal.

You can mix/ accessorize your teal fabric with other beautiful colors like white, coral, cream, navy, pink, gold, brown and even cobalt blue.

Below are different shades of the teal color fabrics on fabulous party guest for your inspiration:

MAGNIFICIENT NORTHERN AMARIYAS

I lived in the North, Kano precisely for about seven years but unfortunately did not attend a single Hausa wedding throughout my stay *covers face*.   May be because most of their weddings are somewhat intimate and only the relatives (note that they have a large and closely knitted family system which I admire a lot) and close friends get to attend most of their weddings.

The Northern traditional wedding is similar to the Arab’s wedding but with our African culture infused in the ceremony, you wonder how I got to know this since I didn’t attend any? Well I get fascinated by pictures of Hausa weddings in featured in magazines and also online.

So am dedicating my post today to the northern Amariyas (Amariya means new bride), the bride is always the cynosure of all eyes at every wedding and the Northern weddings are not an exception, in fact their brides are super magnificent!

From the wedding dress which is always slaying and stunning to the display of gold accessories, diamonds, and nowadays beaded jewelry.

Another important part of the Northern bride appearance is the henna tattoo. Henna tattoos are non-permanent dying or staining on the top layer of skin using a henna paste product. This used to beautify the hands and feet of the bride to make her appear absolutely gorgeous on her big day.

645560495100917943_204705253 751457125678708848_204705253

Most of the times, the Amariyas are always well covered on their wedding day, their head is properly wrapped with a turban or sometimes the gele head-tie and then a veil is placed over the gele/turban. They look absolutely stunning!

Apart from the henna tattoo on their hands and feet, their faces are also well made up with subtle make up, nothing loud but absolutely flawless even though they are blessed with good skin naturally especially the Fulanis.

In my usual manner am going to display lots of pictures of beautiful Amariyas in drop dead gorgeous bridal outfist made from lace fabrics, ruffles, plain tulle fabrics, satin and silk in various colors  for you to attest to the magnificence of the Northern bride.

2014 WEDDING COLORS

2014 WEDDING COLORS: WHITE AND GOLD

Hello my lovelies,
Happy new month and Happy Eid- Kabir in advance to my Muslim readers and happy holidays as well to everyone.
Am excited about the holidays! At least we can have a short rest before the Christmas holidays.

Okay, so today am bringing up another post under the 2014 wedding colors category, the 2014 wedding colors segment/ series is dedicated to the 2014 brides-to be, who are still confused as to what color to wear on their traditional wedding day.
I posted pictures of some color inspirations earlier here, here and here.
But today’s color suggestion/inspiration is a very unique and extremely beautiful color combination that looks good on every bride despite their skin tone.
Yes, It’s the WHITE AND GOLD color mix either you are using a complete asooke set or you are mixing lace fabric with aso-oke or gele or even if it’s a blouse and George fabric wrapper, the white and gold color mix or combination will make you stand out and give you that regal and rich look that every bride want to have on her big day.
White signifies purity, innocence, goodness, heaven, safety, brilliance, understanding, faith, spirituality, possibility, sincerity, wholeness and completeness
Gold also signifies extravagance, wealth, riches, luxury, excess, generous, compassion, love, power, justice and strength.
If these and much more are all that you wish for in life and in your marriage, then you’ve got the right colors.

Now that you know the meaning of the colors you are wearing, let me move a step further by showing you some pictures of brides that have used this combination to inspire you more:
