Hi my lovelies,
Welcome to August! Sometimes ago I did a post HERE on Staples that we should have when it comes to native wears in our wardrobe/closet. I mentioned Ankara tops and Ankara bottoms( skirts, shorts or trouser pants) as essentials for that casual chic look to work on Fridays, market or saloon ‘runs’ on Saturday or just when you want to hang out with the girls or family.
I also made a post of Ankara tops on denim HERE with pictures of gorgeous ladies rocking the ever green Ankara fabric on the ever reliable denim pants.
In today’s post I will be showing us how we can rock Ankara bottoms with casual tops for our not so formal event and for the casual chic Friday look to work as we say TGIF baby😊.
We can use the Ankara fabric to make maxi skirts, pallazo pants, shorts, pencil skirts or fitted pants which can match all kinds/colors of casual tops because of the versatile nature of the print fabric.
Here are some trendy yet affordable styles you can make with the Ankara fabric to add some ‘spice’ to your closet.

In 2015 and 2014, we made posts on the beauty of corals worn by the Niger-delta part of Nigeria brides for their traditional wedding HERE and HERE
Like I mentioned in previous posts, the brides from the Niger-delta are adorned with beautiful coral beads most times from Head to Toe which makes them the cynosure of all eyes on their big day. This culture is quite fascinating, purely African and super gorgeous.
The coral beads gives the bride a royal appearance and The Niger- delta bride whether from Edo, Delta or Rivers state outfit can never be complete without the beads costume.
There are always of different sizes and shapes ranging from small sized bead to medium to large to extra-large! Yeah, extra-large because some of them look very huge on the neck of the bride but am not sure of the weight if it’s as heavy as it looks (if you are from Niger-Delta kindly explain further in the comments section. Thanks).
Customarily, coral red color is the standard color for the beads even though some use other colors like white, peach e.t.c. it’s only the coral colored beads that actually give the native effect that every bride will want to portray on her traditional wedding day.
The beads can be worn as a top on the wrapper tied on the chest; it basically covers from the shoulder down to the waist in some parts while some other parts use the beads to make a cap and the bride gets to wear this very regal cap and also adorn her neck with the huge size coral bead neck piece! EXQUISITE!
Some also use it to adorn the native hairstyles that are exclusively made for brides on their Big Day to give the Emotan (Benin Queen) look with different sizes of coral beads carefully arranged on their neck as they present them to their groom.
Once again, check out these gorgeous brides adorned with different designs of corals beads on their big day to inspire you especially if you are from the Niger-delta and you’re trying to make a decision on your traditional wedding outfit :
This post is to showcase the African men in different fabrics, colors and style to inspire other male folks that will like to step out stylishly on Fridays to work or on Sundays to church services or to the next owambe they intend to attend.
Men also have variety of fabrics to choose from like brocade, cotton fabrics, wool, atiku material, polished lace etc.
Most African men tend to choose calm and neutral colors they do not like to play with bright colors like the ladies. Examples of colors that men tend to use to sew native wears include: white, cream, beige, grey, black, off-white, navy-blue, sky-blue etc
The men folk also accessorize with mufflers, different types of caps/hats, sunglasses, wristbands, exquisite rings, coralbeads etc.
Below are some handsome African dudes with so much Finesse looking very fresh, eye-catching and smart as they display the Nigerian/African culture in different fabrics:
