Today I’m bringing back your favourite series on this blog #theweekendspoltlight
This is actually the first one this year 🙈 ( check the last one HERE ) but over the weekend, a particular traditional wedding broke our timeline on different social media platforms with the hashtag #thebashunion and this triggered the need to bring back this series.
It was such a beautiful and colorful event with top celebrities and society ladies in attendance.
One striking thing about this wedding is that they didn’t choose any fabric as asoebi but they only made a uniform asooke for their party guests as asooke asoebi and it was beautiful.
Like I normally say here even though I’m a fabric vendor, when you want to choose asoebi always consider your guests. If a uniform gele be it #segogele or asooke will be perfect and affordable then it’s okay. You don’t have to use or sell fabrics as asoebi.
In this case , their party guests are high class ladies so money is not even a factor and most of these wealthy folks even give out asoebi for FREE. But it could be due to time frame because manufacturing and shipping fabrics in large quantity takes like a month to 6weeks that’s for air freight but asooke is made locally and it will be faster to get and distribute.
So choose whatever works for you and make it easy for your guests . You can choose affordable fabrics of great quality as asoebi or you can choose quality asooke gele or Sego gele for your asoebi or just pick a color code. Remember the most important thing is to have your guests honour you with their presence at your party.
Now let’s see the beautiful party guests we spotted at #thebashunion last weekend in their lemon green or Chartreuse color asooke gele asoebi:
First of the gorgeous couple ( Dara and Tosin) in all white looking super stunning
Then in their asooke traditional outfit ( Did you notice they are wearing different but complementary colors)
Now to the party guests in fabulous fabrics with the asooke :
Then some other party guests in different gorgeous designs without the asoebi gele but still caught our attention as they are spectacular in different colors also:
What do you think about #thebashunion traditional wedding? Share your thoughts in the comments section and will you use only asooke gele as asoebi for your party? Let me know why.
For those that do not know, the Asoebi extravaganza series is where we show you different gorgeous Asoebi color combinations and fabrics rocked by party guests to different events to inspire you when you want to make decisions on Asoebi fabrics or color code for your own party guests.
By the way, Asoebi also known as ‘family cloth’ is a Western Nigerian culture that has become a global phenomenon. Asoebi is a fabric hand picked by the celebrant of any event but most especially weddings for his/her family members to wear as a uniform but nowadays, it’s no longer restricted to family members the Asoebi bug has been caught by friends and loved ones who also get to wear the fabric.
The intent of the Asoebi culture is to foster love and unity in a family. It also depicts oneness and equality as everyone appear in one Fabric irrespective of your societal status or class.
Let’s take a look at some amazing people in gorgeous Asoebi fabrics :

Here are our favorite looks from last weekend for your perusal:
In 2015 and 2014, we made posts on the beauty of corals worn by the Niger-delta part of Nigeria brides for their traditional wedding HERE and HERE
Like I mentioned in previous posts, the brides from the Niger-delta are adorned with beautiful coral beads most times from Head to Toe which makes them the cynosure of all eyes on their big day. This culture is quite fascinating, purely African and super gorgeous.
The coral beads gives the bride a royal appearance and The Niger- delta bride whether from Edo, Delta or Rivers state outfit can never be complete without the beads costume.
There are always of different sizes and shapes ranging from small sized bead to medium to large to extra-large! Yeah, extra-large because some of them look very huge on the neck of the bride but am not sure of the weight if it’s as heavy as it looks (if you are from Niger-Delta kindly explain further in the comments section. Thanks).
Customarily, coral red color is the standard color for the beads even though some use other colors like white, peach e.t.c. it’s only the coral colored beads that actually give the native effect that every bride will want to portray on her traditional wedding day.
The beads can be worn as a top on the wrapper tied on the chest; it basically covers from the shoulder down to the waist in some parts while some other parts use the beads to make a cap and the bride gets to wear this very regal cap and also adorn her neck with the huge size coral bead neck piece! EXQUISITE!
Some also use it to adorn the native hairstyles that are exclusively made for brides on their Big Day to give the Emotan (Benin Queen) look with different sizes of coral beads carefully arranged on their neck as they present them to their groom.
Once again, check out these gorgeous brides adorned with different designs of corals beads on their big day to inspire you especially if you are from the Niger-delta and you’re trying to make a decision on your traditional wedding outfit :
